Many celebrated opera designers are architects who push boundaries beyond the constraints of tradition, to produce buildings as works of art, house people and stories, and provoke reactions, opinions and judgment for people on the outside looking in.  In a series showcasing private contemporary design (art) in the natural landscape in the Yarra Valley/Dandenong Ranges, structures become at once intimate, domestic and grand:  backdrops for everyday life and intimate stories. Our five properties are groundbreaking buildings that would not have pleased everyone when they first appeared in their habitat.  Similar to contemporary opera, which can polarise on first hearing, strong and imaginative architecture evokes widespread debate about artistic merit and claims on the traditional and comfortable.

At each Yarra Valley/Dandenong Ranges private property (5 in total) we will offer a glimpse of these hidden homes, popping in with one of our young artists to perform a contemporary aria nestled in the structure and landscape.

The concept of domesticity and 'at home' is pertinent in 2020: as is being open to trying new things.
Contemporary opera and modern architecture are made for each other.
